Back taunting the NME, the Pope of the indie scene returns to upset the feeble writers of the NME once again. Aparently they now consider that maybe he could be a tory mp in disguise, oh the fools….here’s a great track to remind us how proper indie songs should be written.

Track: Flag Day - The Housemartins
To celebrate the new ‘Best Of’ (Soup) by The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, I present one of my favourite tracks. I saw them live at Glastonbury the same year as Half Man Half Biscuit, The Pogues, Madness, The Cure and possibly The Woddentops but I’m not sure. My big brov bought me the ticket and we huddled in a tent for the weekend…after that I don’t think Glastonbury has been worth its ticket price since.
Oh and I also contracted dysantry from drinking milk straight from a cow!
Such memories

Song is - Bottles to the Ground by NofX
I waited a long time to see NoFX live, and I have to say…disappointed, probably because the venue was too small. If they had played somewhere bigger it would have been more comfortable for those of us too old to be ‘cracking heads in the pit.’ I do enjoy a good pit, but not if you can’t breathe, that takes the fun out of it.
Musically they were damn good, a few more songs and a bit less talking would have helped too…I think maybe I’m getting too old for these punk gigs, roll on February for Reel Big Fish I can handle their pit !!

‘Dancing at the disco bumper to bumper - wait a minute, where’s me jumper’
A stomping track from one of Irelands oddest exports - shiny PVC trousers and jeans that were always far too tight…Niall was a real bitch on stage.
After seeing them support Carter at the ‘Last Ever Carter Gig’ ™ one thing stood out and that was, they’ve grown up a bit….still great songs but less bite.
Still better than most bands round now HAHA

A great song originally released as Your Ghost from her Hips and Makers debut album, with Michael Stipe on added vocals, this is a great pounding version with Kristin Hersh vocals still on top form.

In response to my brother’s constant blogging of obscure music, I thought I’d join the world of the audio blog and treat everyone to some of the best music from my past.
Starting off with the titular track to this blog
Joy Division - Atrocity Exhibition, named a fter a book by JG Ballard and used as a band name for many an act, including my friends, Pete and Andrew which involved Andrew playing raucous guitar to Pete’s ’sitting in another room and shouting’ style vocals - genius.
